World Antimicrobial Awareness Week

Posted on:

Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW), starting on November 18th, is a global effort to help people understand antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR happens when germs like bacteria and viruses change over time so that medicines, such as antibiotics, can no longer kill them. This makes infections harder to treat.

The goal of WAAW is to:

  1. Raise Awareness: Help people see why it’s important to use medicines, like antibiotics, correctly and only when needed.
  2. Promote Good Practices: Encourage doctors, farmers and everyone to avoid overusing these drugs.
  3. Work Together: Inspire countries and communities worldwide to take steps to slow down the spread of drug-resistant infections.

WAAW reminds us that by using medicines wisely, we can protect their power to fight infections for the future.
